The problem with a large pool isn't the cost. It's the vigilance.

Big pools go wrong slowly and then all at once. You're fine for three weeks, then there's a hot spell and a party and suddenly the whole thing has a green cast, and now you're spending a weekend and a lot of money bringing it back.

The reason is that chlorine is reactive — it works when you dose it, and it degrades in sun and heat, exactly when algae is growing fastest. There's a gap between doses, and on a large pool that gap is where the trouble starts.

Ionization is the opposite. Copper ions stay in the water and keep working continuously. They don't burn off at midday. That steady baseline is what closes the gap between your chlorine doses — so the pool doesn't drift while you're not looking.

What owning this actually looks like

• Day one: Attach the anode, set it in the water. Five minutes.
• Weeks 1–3: Test copper every few days while it comes up to level.
• Every week after: One test strip.
• Every two weeks: Lift it out, brush the anode, put it back. Under five minutes.

That's the whole thing. There's no controller to program, no cell to inspect, no acid to add to a feeder, and nothing that fails in a way that requires a technician.

The honest caveat: You still run chlorine, just far less of it around 1–1.5 ppm instead of 3. And you do have to test weekly. This lowers your workload substantially; it doesn't take you out of the loop. A pool that nobody checks goes green no matter what's floating in it.

On a big pool, the water quality difference is bigger too

More water means more chlorine, which means more chloramines the byproduct that produces the sharp smell and the eye sting. Running a large pool at a much lower chlorine level cuts that load proportionally.
